About Scott McKenna

Scott McKenna is the founder of Operation Due Justice, a United States Air Force veteran, Eagle Scout, former Guardian ad Litem volunteer, mediator, former Big Brother Big Sister Volunteer, licensed private investigator with nearly three decades of investigative experience, and dad of two young children.

Operation Due Justice grew out of Scott’s own experience with the domestic-violence and family-court systems. After years of highly contested litigation involving allegations that Scott maintains were false, exaggerated, or contradicted by objective evidence, he experienced arrests, incarceration, domestic-violence proceedings, severe restrictions on his parental rights, and ultimately the loss of contact with his children.

The financial consequences were staggering. Scott was billed more than $1 million in legal fees during the underlying family-law litigation and incurred more than $100,000 in additional legal and related expenses associated with disputed domestic-violence allegations, arrests, incarceration, and related proceedings. The litigation contributed to the loss of his home, financial security, livelihood, savings, and reputation.

But Scott has repeatedly said that none of those losses compare with the loss of time with his children.

Once an actively involved dad participating in their schooling, medical care, activities, routines, and everyday lives, Scott experienced what he describes as the effective severance of the parent-child relationship. That experience fundamentally changed the direction of his life and became the driving force behind Operation Due Justice.

Rather than remain silent, Scott began documenting his experience and reaching out to lawmakers, government agencies, court officials, attorneys, journalists, advocates, and other parents who reported similar experiences.

His advocacy has included extensive outreach to the Florida Governor’s Office, Florida Attorney General, Florida House and Senate, members of Florida’s congressional delegation, the Department of Children and Families, State Attorney offices, FDLE, federal civil-rights and child-welfare agencies, judicial and professional oversight entities, law-enforcement agencies, and investigative journalists.

Scott has personally participated in meetings and discussions with Florida lawmakers and legislative staff concerning proposed family-court reforms. His outreach has included legislators and staff associated with Rep. Kimberly Berfield, Sen. Don Gaetz, Sen. Tom Leek, Sen. Barbara Sharief, Rep. Debra Tendrich, Sen. Jason Pizzo, Sen. Jennifer Bradley, Sen. Erin Grall, Rep. Alex Andrade, Rep. Michelle Salzman, Rep. Angie Nixon, Rep. Yvette Benarroch, Rep. Linda Chaney, Rep. Patt Maney, and others.

He has also worked alongside family-court reform advocates and other parents and advocates seeking changes to Florida family-law policy and procedure.

Among the reform concepts Scott has helped advance are the “Time Taken, Time Back Act,” designed around restoring parent-child time lost through prolonged restrictions or litigation; a proposed “Three Strikes Custody Interference Act,” addressing repeated intentional interference with court-ordered parenting relationships; and proposals allowing recovery of fees and costs where intentional parental interference is established.

Scott has also sought greater scrutiny of what happens when serious allegations of domestic violence or child abuse are made during custody litigation. His position is not that legitimate victims should ever receive less protection. To the contrary, Operation Due Justice advocates for thorough investigations that protect genuine victims while also safeguarding due process, testing allegations against objective evidence, and recognizing the enormous consequences of knowingly false accusations.

His investigative background heavily influences that mission. As a private investigator, Scott has spent decades working with evidence, witnesses, timelines, records, attorneys, courts, and competing factual narratives. Through Operation Due Justice, he applies those same principles—verify the evidence, document the facts, identify contradictions, preserve due process, and demand accountability.

Scott’s advocacy is ultimately rooted in his experience as a father.

He knows firsthand that money can potentially be replaced, careers can be rebuilt, and property can be recovered. Time with a child cannot.

Operation Due Justice exists to give families a voice, encourage transparency and accountability within family-court and domestic-violence systems, promote meaningful due-process protections, and help ensure that children are never unnecessarily deprived of a loving parent because allegations were accepted without adequate scrutiny.

Protect children. Protect due process. Examine the evidence. Hold institutions accountable. And never forget that childhood cannot be given back.

“They may take your time, but don’t let them take your hope. Never give up on your kids.”
